«At Le Mans in 1967, I really wanted to do well in respect to bandini's memory. he and I had shared the wins at daytona and Monza and I really wanted to put up a good effort. I was teamed up with Nino Vaccarella and we were running at a good pace. Wed were giving away 50 horsepower and probably 30 miles an hour on Mulsanne to the Fords, but our plan was ro run at a good pace, pressure them, and hope that they broke. No one ever thought that Gurney and Foyt would finish, let alone win, so we just let them go. Ferrari thought that they would never make it half way through the night at the pace that they were running. i would have loved to have had a bet on that one.» |
