1967 «Driving the factory Ferrari 330 P4 at Le Mans was a glorious experience and thge P4 was a lovely car to drive. I was teamed with German driver Gunter Klass and we were the third of tree factory cars. Our car was almost written off by Klass in practice. he had a huge shunt and I thought the car was going to be withdrawn due to the extreme amount of damage. Ferrari flew up a team of fourteen body and chassis builders and they completely rebuilt the car overnight. They did such a brilliant job that it looked like the car had never been wrecked at all. Our instructions for the race were to hold back, be consistent, and stay in front of trhe Porsches, which was no easy task.» |
1967 «The Ferrari 330 P4 was a superb car. it was much better then the 289 Ford GT 40s, but it was no match for the big Fords. Unfortunately the crew spent so much time on the body reepairs that they didn't have time to check the engine and that was to be our downfall. We were running fourth when we went out in the 18th hour with engine failure.» |
1967 «Mike Parkes and Ludovico Scarfiotti drove one of the finest races I've ever witnessed in pursuit of the Fords. They never quit and they gave it their all, putting up record lap after record lap in pursuit of the Fords. Whwn they came in for a driver change after their hour-and-a-half driving session, they were completely wiped out. They drove that P4 to the absolute limit and no one could have done more.» |
