1964 «O quarto lugar não é mau. Talvez a América não tenha contribuído para o fim da Ferrari desta vez. Mas pregámos-lhe um susto. No ano que vem damos-lhe uma sova.» |
1967 «The greatest race that dan Gurney or A. J. Foyt ever drove was when they won Le Mans in 1967. By the time they finished practice for the race, the goddamned car was a disaster. They had both made so damn many changes on the car that the son of a bitch wouldn't even go down the Mulsanne Straight. Gurney and Foyt were both fiddle fuddlers and they couldn´t keep their damn hands off the car. When practice and qualifying were over, I told the crew to take the car back to the garage, put it on the base plate, and set it up like it was when we tested it at Riverside, and fuck it, let'em drive it that way in the race. of course, they did, and we all know the result.» |
1967 «When you're at Le Mans, you drive 80 to 90 percent, never 90 to 100 percent unless it's the last few laps and you have a chance to catch somebody. In those days you couldn't abuse the car for 24 hours. We didn't have the components that they have now, and the transmissions, engine, brakes, and suspension couldn't take that kind of punishment.» |
